He was prolific in many genres, writing dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, but he is now best remembered for his science fiction novels. "Ann Veronica: A Modern Love Story" is a novel, which describes the rebellion of a young lady named Ann Veronica Stanley against her middle-class father's stern patriarchal rule. The novel dramatizes the contemporary problem of the New Woman. It is set in Victorian era London and environs, except for an Alpine excursion.
