Chocolat

The quiet life of a small French town is disrupted by the arrival of a young woman, Vianne, and her daughter. They come with a lively, colourful carnival parade. When the carnival ends, its joyful spirit lingers in Vianne’s eyes as she opens a chocolate shop. In some magical way, she understands the townspeople’s hidden desires and offers each of them just the right treat to help them rediscover life’s pleasures. ‘Chocolat’ is a story about kindness and tolerance, exploring the conflict between innocent temptations and rigid righteousness. The Hollywood film of the same name, directed by Lasse Hallström (Hachi: A Dog's Tale, What's Eating Gilbert Grape) and starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp, was nominated for five Academy Awards.
